REFLEXOLOGY
WHAT IS
REFLEXOLOGY?
Reflexology is an ancient
healing therapy. It is based on the theory
that there are reflex points relating to
all of the body's structures and systems
on the feet. For example, the big toe
represents the head. A reflexologist can
stimulate the internal organs, glands and
bones of the body and bring them into a
natural state of balance by massaging
these reflex points on the feet.

BENEFITS OF
REFLEXOLOGY
Reflexology reduces tension and
anxiety. It promotes relaxation and the
feeling of well being. It relaxes the mind
and body and helps the body eliminate
toxins. Most clients feel energised after
a treatment. It can be beneficial for the
following conditions:
|

|
|

|
Any Stress Related
Disease
|

|
Arthritis
|
|

|
Skeletal Problems in Back,
Neck, Shoulder,
Knee, Hip, Pelvis etc

Constipation, Irritable Bowel
Syndrome
|

|

|
|

|

After an injury, stress, illness
or disease, the body is
imbalanced. Reflexology restores
balance and harmony to the body
by clearing congested reflexes.
It is a great boost to the immune
system.
WHO
IS REFLEXOLOGY FOR?
Reflexology is a safe,
natural therapy for all. It can
be used to treat infants,
teenagers, pregnant women and the
elderly. You do not have to be
ill to have Reflexology, it is a
very relaxing therapy and a good
time for you and your body to
relax and watch the world go
by.
HOW
OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE A
TREATMENT?
Regular reflexology
treatments are a good way to keep
your health in check. Even if you
are not sick, a regular monthly
reflexology treatment will boost
your immune system and act as an
ideal prevention of ill health.
Regular treatments will maintain
properly balanced systems and can
prevent the occurrence of
disease.
If you are ill and on
medication, reflexology can be
used as a complementary therapy
along with medical treatment.
Full details of your condition
will be taken at your first
consultation and you will be
required to check with you doctor
that reflexology will not
interfere with your medication.
Many doctors and consultants are
recognising the benefits of this
anxiety relieving and calming
therapy.

MATERNITY
REFLEXOLOGY - PREGNANCY, LABOUR
AND FERTILITY
|

|

|
Reflexology is a
wonderful therapy, which
can be used safely
during pregnancy and
labour. It is best to
wait until you are 12
weeks pregnant or more
before you avail of a
treatment. Reflexology
is recommended by Holles
Street Hospital in
Dublin for pregnant
women.
|

|
|

PREGNANCY
AND
LABOUR
|
|
It is also highly
recommended by Dr Gowri
Motha in her book
'Gentle Birth Method'.
Dr Gowri Motha is famous
for having treated Elle
Macpherson and other
famous stars during
pregnancy. Her book can
be purchased in Hodges
Figgis.
|

|

|

|
Benefits of a reflexology
treatment during Pregnancy &
Labour can include some of the
following:
|

|
Reduces morning
sickness
|
|

|
Can bring relief from
indigestion,
constipation,
haemorrhoids, and
morning sickness.
|
|

|
Regularise Blood
pressure
|
|

|
Helps with heartburn,
backache and
sciatica.
|
|

|
Will help you sleep
better and give you more
energy
|
|

|
Prepares the body for
labour by balancing the
body's systems,
especially the endocrine
system which is
responsible for the
secretion of many
important hormones.
|
|

|
Reflexology can help
induce labour
naturally.
|
|

|
The length of labour
can be very much reduced
by having regular
treatments in the weeks
prior to your expectant
delivery date.
|
|

|
Reflexology can be
used during labour to
help boost energy
levels, aid deep muscle
relaxation between
contractions. It can
stimulate production of
natural endorphins.
|
|

|
After birth
Reflexology babies are
very calm, suckle better
and are less prone to
colic.

GETTING
PREGNANT
Sometimes couples are told
there is no obvious medical reason as to
why they can't get pregnant. This often
leaves couples wondering desperately what
can they do. Often the reason can be down
to stress and tension of our everyday
life. You can't get pregnant until you
relax and you can't relax because you
can't get pregnant!
Why not try Reflexology as part of your
solution? It has a good success rate and
it's completely natural and is
non-invasive. It can also be used
alongside medicinal treatment primarily
for relaxation.
Benefits of a reflexology treatment if
a couple are having difficulty
conceiving:
|

|
If both the male and female
are treated it can help relax
them during this tense time.
|
|

|
The endocrine system can be
stimulated to help produce
important hormones.
|
|

|
Sexual organs can be
stimulated on the feet to
strengthen them and encourage
sperm count.
|

AFTER BIRTH
After the birth Reflexology can
help you recover. It can do the
following;
|

|
Replacing energy loss
|

|
Post natal depression
|
|

|
Caesarian recovery
|

|
Insomnia
|
|

|
Aid milk flow
|

|
Stress and anxiety
|
|

|
Helping uterus return to it's
original state
|

REFLEXOLOGY
AND CHILDREN
Children love reflexology and
show the benefits of it very quickly. I
visit crèches and treat infants
(e.g. Lilliput Crèche in Foxrock)
as part of their day. Infants and Children
only need about a 10-minute treatment.
Some parents have commented on how more
relaxed their child is since they began
getting reflexology and are sleeping
straight through the night for up to 10
hours!
|
Reflexology for infants is
particularly effective in helping
soothe colic, bad sleeping
patterns, low immune systems,
asthma, ear and throat
infections, digestive
disturbances (e.g. constipation,
trapped wind).
It's a great way to treat your
infant naturally and avoid using
antibiotics.
|

|

|
|

|

|
Babies and Children really do
enjoy Reflexology. Once they
receive one or two treatments
they often have their feet up in
the air ready for me to treat
when I arrive!
